Comments: I would like to hear from anyone who was aboard at the same time. I still
have a cruise book I get out every now and again. The bagpipes while
coming into port, wandering if that blasted midget kangaro was going to fall
overboard. Great job.

Comments:
My father, Robert C. Rasmussen, has enjoyed the information I have sent him from this website. He
did share a sea story form the Gurke. Shortly after the end of WWII, the
Gurke was assigned to await a flyover by some B-17s on their way to Japan.
The flight was delayed and the Gurke spent several days in a very calm sea
just off the coast of Japan. Time was spent in part playing football on the
fantail. A disaster for the ship's morale occurred when the football went
overboard. The disaster was averted because the ship was brought about and
the football was recovered. If this ship could find a lost football in the Pacific
Ocean, those B-17 pilots had a well drilled crew had they needed to ditch.
