Comments: I was provided with this information from a former crew member on the USS Gurke. My husband was a Midshipman and I admire and respect what enlisted men and women do for not only our Country but the whole world to keep it from falling into the hands of the enemy, whatever that would be.

Comments: Great ship, had alot of fun while stationed aboard the Gurke. Over the years, age catches up with us and, as always, memory is the first to go. I still remember the cruises, mostly off the coast of Viet Nam doing plane guard with those carriers. That was really boring. I was aboard when the Gurke, along with quite a number of other ships including the USS Chicago, did a show of force in the Sea of Japan, talk about cold. I'm sure there are a number of you Gurke sailors who can recall pulling that unrep/refueling line across and getting drenched in rough seas. Many happy memories aboard the Gurke, sure are, too many to mention in this forum. I just hope each and every one of you Gurke Sailors are doing well. My wife and I are retired now, retired as an RMC in 1988, living in Oklahoma. Have fun and keep those memories alive.
