Comments: Great Site! Brings back the "ol memories". I was a GMG3 who was transferred to the Gurke from across the pier. Yea, I was on the DD-786 homeported in Yokosuka, and I guess they needed Gunner's Mates on the Gurke. After leaving the Gurke, I spent the next 2 years at Naval Magazine, Subic. All you West Pac Sailors remember Subic, don't ya? Anyway, I rode 1 more "Tin Can" after leaving Subic, and I must say the Gurke was by far the best! To all former shipmates, I wish you all well.
