Comments: I was operating the Main Battery Director Rangefinder during the Inchon Invasion . I had the best view of all. It was awesome. My fellow shipmates were the best in the world.

I won't be able to be at the reunion in San Diego but will try to get to the (Ship's Bell) Dedication in Bismark, North Dakota. I am trying to find two fellow firecontrolman Baxter Campell and Walter Murphy. This a Wonderful Page and I wish everybody a happy time in San Diego, I have some good memories with my fellow shipmates while seving aboard the Gurke and visiting the various ports in the Far East.

Comments: I was the First Lieutenant, sometimes known as "head janitor". After the Gurke I went to the Mobile Riverine Force in the Mekong River for a year. Needless to say Gurke was much better. Looking forward to the reunion in San Diego and hope to see some of the guys from this era, including Ralph Humbertson and Joe Dawson. Hope to share lots of sea stories. (for some reason I remember the good times, meaning good people) By the way the only difference between a fairy tale and a sea story is that a fairy tail begins with "Once upon a time" and a sea story begins with " This ain't no s..."

Comments: Left the "ol' gurke" as Stg2. Knew Bob Neaves very well. Some of the other Weps. Dept. guys were Vern Hoew, Tim Turner, Leon Encineas, Ens Sweet, LtJg Schlitdig, Edward Mull, Leslie Johnstone (and his "white eared elephant"), ect. How about those great liberty ports, like Subic, a place you could smell many hours before ever seeing land. What ever happened to Susie North SAR and Sally South SAR. Remember the seemingly endless, sunless days steaming alone in the Gulf? How about Korea and and the mission to rescue the Pueblo? I could go on and on, but I'll stop for now. We were all totally nuts in those days!
